Under the Mediterranean 2017

Bursaries were awarded to 17 candidates to attend the Honor Frost Foundation ‘Under the Mediterranean’ conference held in Cyprus during October 2017. The bursaries were awarded to a variety of candidates undertaking research on sites across the eastern Mediterranean. They presented both papers and posters at the conference which was also held to commemorate the anniversary of the centenary of Honor Frost’s birth.  As a result this has enabled a network of researchers to share their expertise and knowledge and develop future collaborative projects across the Mediterranean.

Subjects presented by the bursary recipients included research into shipwrecks, eroding coastal sites, harbours and ports, evidence of trade networks, museums and heritage studies, as well as papers on Honor Frost’s legacy and how this is shaping the future of maritime archaeology. The majority of reports received from the bursary recipients highlighted the role Honor Frost had played in shaping their own careers and providing inspiration to continue their research in the Mediterranean.
