Antony Firth – Technical Advisor to the Steering Committee on Underwater Cultural Heritage

From 2015 to 2021 Dr Antony Firth was the Technical Advisor to the HFF Steering Committee on Underwater Cultural Heritage. He has now gone on to an exciting new role with Historic England, and we wanted to thank him for everything he has achieved over the last six years. Antony has played a crucial role in ensuring that Underwater Cultural Heritage is better managed, protected and promoted. He has been instrumental in helping the Steering Committee to respond to numerous public consultations as well as developing best practice guidance, impact reviews and a number of policy forums. All of which has helped us to raise awareness about the importance of Underwater Cultural Heritage and its role in the management of our oceans. Antony was also the co-chair of the Ocean Decade Heritage Network, supported by the Foundation, which was established in 2019 to mobilise the cultural heritage sector in its engagement with the UN Ocean Decade. ODHN’s Cultural Heritage Framework Programme was one of the first Actions to be officially endorsed as part of the UN Ocean Decade on World Ocean Day 2021. We wish Dr Firth all the best in his new role and thank him for the enormous contribution he has made to Underwater Cultural Heritage.
