1st EEZ Project Workshop- Alexandria, Egypt, January 28, 2025
In collaboration with the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom, and Alexandria University, Egypt, the first workshop within the framework of the project “Enhancing Ocean Heritage Governance in Egypt’s Exclusive Economic Zone: Bridging Policy Gaps for Sustainable Management in the Eastern Mediterranean” was held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina on January 28, 2025.
The workshop was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Egyptian General Petroleum Authority, and several petroleum service companies. Discussions centered on the key requirements for safeguarding underwater cultural heritage, the challenges associated with conservation efforts, and strategies for fostering cross-sector collaboration. Furthermore, a comprehensive memorandum was developed, detailing a set of recommendations and implementation mechanisms aimed at strengthening preservation efforts and ensuring the long-term sustainability of underwater cultural heritage for future generations.
