Phoenician Shipwreck site recorded with digital technology at 110 metres

A team of archaeologists supported by technical divers under the direction of Dr. Timmy Gambin from the University of Malta, has just concluded two weeks of underwater research on a Phoenician Shipwreck off the island of Gozo, Malta. Supported by a grant from the Honor Frost Foundation, the research uses a combination of traditional excavation techniques and state of the art digital technologies for the recording of the site. At 110m below the surface this project offers both challenges, mainly in time constraints; as well as opportunities, given the pristine condition of this unique Phoenician site. The Foundation is proud to be a partner in such a groundbreaking expedition and looks forward to receiving and sharing results of the 2017 season.
